Quick Book Promo from Thriftbooks for Our Golden Thread Community
and Kate's August Book reads Adult & Children
First, I interrupt our regularly cadenced post for this Back to School (for anyone) Savings from Thriftbooks (my favorite place to look for books). Yes this is an affiliated post; I get $5 credit on a book so I can keep reading to create Write the Year with Kate🌾🌲🌷🌻.
So here’s the promo: Get more with your back to school shopping this year.
We'll start with 30 bonus points on up to 6 orders this week! Whether it's classics you're needing, new textbooks, picture books, or young adult reads, we've got the stock you need at the right price to get it all this season. (I am putting all the full term details at the end of this post)
Okay, let’s talk about books that I am reading right now, which are several:
I started reading “do less” by Kate Northrup as I have been a bit entranced by her upward success and marrying somatic expansion for maximum joy, basically if you don’t include your body, your subconscious script won’t change. Now, that isn’t what this book is focused on, yet I am really enjoying my reading. Her cadence of writing is a gentle reminder that we are cyclical beings, and if you have a younger one leaving the cusp of younger years into menses I would recommend the first few chapters (also not the intention or focus of the book); she annihilates the idea that a period is something you just endure for a few days. Kate effectively illuminates the way to harness the innate wisdom of the female form and how to live with a woman’s cycle of energy — thus doing less, and being more in alignment.
This book I checked out from the library because it has red clover in the title and I am currently obsessed with drinking red clover, nettle, hibiscus tea, but I really don’t have time for this book. So I basically carry it up and down the stairs each day. Has anyone read it?
This book was a gift, and I am shocked how much I am enjoying it. It is away more than a parenting book; it is a humaning book. I have heard some podcasts with Dr. Becky so I thought I was catching her vibe, but a few sips of morning coffee and a paragraph of this book is becoming a profound way to set my mindset for the day as a mother and a person. Obviously it’s effective in switching your parenting mindset, but it is not a blah, blah, blah do this thing and everything works out, or you are wrong kind of book. It’s a concept expander, and I think it is marvelous and I haven’t even gotten that far.
Clearly I need a light, well written fiction recommendation if you have it, but I am back into the thick of finishing this one by Steiner. I was reading it at a clip in April, and then I amped up my summer frolic, finished his book At Home in the Universe (fabulous) and as the weather cools, and my heart looks for orientation in a time of devastation and cruelty, I seemed to pick this book back up at just the right page. Steiner isn’t everyone’s taste, but I get great insight and inspirit from his works.
Now, talk about inspiration. This book was the one my 5th grade teacher read to us about loud, after lunch. With one hand in his pocket, Mr. Benz walked the classroom, and made this book come alive. He did the same for Gentle Ben, and White Fang. This single, passionate teacher, who also drove a red sporty car, made an indelible imprint on my psyche. I can still hear his voice reading thirty-seven years later. I wrote him when I was getting me Ed.M. I found his address on the Internet. We were asked to write a letter of gratitude to an impactful teacher, thanking them and then telling them that we too were taking the path of teaching (great assignment by the way). Sending the letter was up to us.
He replied back in a week. I didn’t even think he would have known who I was, and said so in the letter. I let him know of the effect he had on me, on books, and probably on my respect for teachers. He told me, that now that I was becoming one, I would one day understand how students like myself were never forgotten. So God Bless those that teach from the heart; they shape our world.
I nostalgically pick up this book to read to my son, and if you too loved The Island of the Blue Dolphin, I have to read you the updated introduction that talks about the author Scott O’Dell and his ashes being spread.
Kid’s Books:
Thanks to @thekidlitmama on IG for doing the heavy lifitng on kid book suggestions! This book is great if you have an only, or a kiddo that is feeling like they don’t have enough to share the spotlight with someone else. It’s cute, and I can see my son’t eyes taking in the concept of “being nice to animals you don’t know.”
I love this book and if you have been here for a minute the reasons are self evident. This is a great bedtime, slow down, cuddle in book.
I love finding creative beautiful books. I pop them up on the table for a curious early riser to flip through with morning muffins (he prefers this recipe, which I turn into a one pan cake, sans icing, and stashed with flaxseed and collagen peptides and I only cook with the coconut sugar).
This isn’t new, but it is beautiful and we have pulled it back out for some very leisurely letter work, and it is great.
Hope you found something good in here for your hands and your eyes. Share with me what you are reading in the comments and THANK YOU for your support of The Golden Thread,
See you back soon,
Kate
