If you could see my son when his song comes on, you’d be able to catch the whole, full circle, vibe of this post. I don’t record him for social media, so you’d have to drop into that universal feeling when the beat hits and you are singing to the world that you are here and you’re feeling it. Here’s the song. His little head bobs and we jam.
When I was pregnant I told my best friend I had picked this song as my anthem. I mean if you really listen to the first line, you’ll get my humor. My friend sent me this song in return, which I sang to him everyday for 42 days.
But listen, I know some of his words aren’t all that great for kids, but I love Macklemore’s vibe. He’s goody, he’s him, and he has an impeccable sense of a jam. When I was little I used to carry around a tape recorder with Kool & the Gang and Earth Wind and Fire albums dubbed. I’ve been all about the jam my whole life.
Relevance? Macklemore of all people is showing us how it’s done in a world that is crazy. Don’t go looking for answers — we have to make them, together.
Need a pick me up? Watch this video of him with his daughter. No really, watch it.
Here is what she came up with, if you want to see the two together in the music video.
Macklemore is showing us an answer.
Light up the children.
Do what you love.
Show the kids they are free to do the same. That is the unstoppable force of love.
What we will bring forth is already present. He was the inception of this when I was singing to my babe—hand on bump, while driving down 95,—belting out to him:
“My mama told me never bow your head. What! I feel glorious, glorious, got a chance to start again! I was born for this, born for this, It’s who I am, How could I forget?”
Enjoy your Monday & see you back here soon,
Kate
