Long Form
It is such a good book.
I’ve read it before, yet as a dystopian novel it ages pretty well and it even references 2022 — yikes.
“I think reading is where it’s at for 2026,” a friend said over burgers. Reading has literally always been where it is at for me, but I agree. I’d like to note, it doesn’t have to be a classical texts. Anything at this point will do. Anything. We have all of these reels telling us 10 things to do.I have 1, actually 2.
Get a book you love and a snack, even a really good cup of tea — game changer. 🔗 Current 🫖 if you need a recommendation.

Back to Bradbury, he writes: “I don’t know. We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy. Something’s missing. I looked around. The only thing I positively knew was gone were the books…So I thought books might help.”
[Faber responds] “Number one: Do you know why books are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores. It has features. This book can go under the microscope. You’d find life…That’s my definition anyway. Telling detail. Fresh detail. The good writers touch life often.”
It is so true. Gah, what a line. Are you like that too? Do you gasp and touch the page when the words cut right into the truth of you, but it makes you feel. Videos we blink through and dull our own imaginations, but books, books touch our lives and hearts. We drop into worlds and live there; we cry, we laugh, we pass the story along to a friend — the quickest of flames are the ones that live in well written worlds, lighting endlessly our way.
Get yourself to a library. We need them. Share a picture of your card if you want. Go to a bookstore, walk through the rows and let yourself find a new world to learn.
Books can remind us how gloriously connected we are.How our stories are so unique and yet so intimately woven.
🧠 ➡️ Need a factoid? Here’s an incredible statistic: reading for as little as six minutes can decrease stress up to 68%. When you read, you distract your brain from the problems of the day. This allows your muscles to relax, decreasing blood pressure and heart rate. Reading a book is more effective at reducing stress than listening to music or even taking a walk. Time to put books back in our bathrooms! Turns out that magazine scan was better than scrolls.
And then there is writing, the gifting of your own thoughts and words back to the world, as Montag says in Fahrenheit 451: “Everyone must leave something behind when he dies... A child or a book or a painting... Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.”
Maybe we’ll share some here? I have an idea for a a few Wednesdays, daytime writing. More soon,
XO
