I am a favorite pen, notebook and cup kind of gal. Everything else I am pretty flexible with.
I was scooting through Costco on a focused mission: snacks for a roadtrip to North Carolina. I had pen and notepad supported with a determined focus not to get side-tracked and spend $500 on an 11 months supply of who-knows-what.
As I was heading towards the avocados, I heard my pen top drop to the ground and as I was registering the noise a lovely gentleman, who was on a phone call, had already scooped it up and was walking towards me. We smiled appreciatively, as humans do, at the registered kindness. I went to put the cap back on the pen, only to realize I didn’t have the pen either.
I grabbed the avocados, retraced my steps and found the pen two aisles over. I grabbed a Snoopy beach towel (so cute) for my kiddo and was out of Costco 2 minutes before a phone call I had to make.
This morning, I grabbed the same pen from the cupholder in my car to map out my day and it was out of ink. I was simultaneously listening to a podcast about Saturn Retrograde that just began and carries forward until October 23, 2022. A time period where we may be feeling a corralling of our horses. A pulling back of our energies, to reassess where we have over-extended, a time to access what is really important and make those decisions in those directions. Cut some of the unnecessary, and put a halt on the people-pleasing and over-fulfilling expired contracts.
The podcaster (linked below) reminded me that Saturn needs a let go, even if it is something that you enjoy, to bring in the better that you have been calling in, cultivating and working toward. You gotta let go. Saturn also digs discipline and is a reminder that we do not have infinite time — so how to we best live what we have?
Sometimes when things fall away silently, we jerk backwards, retrace our steps, extend an energy only to find it for naught. I know it’s just a pen. But, I am publishing my first book. There is a threshold. I see it as a very gentle suggestion that the New is on her way. How about you? Do you have any tiny meta-metaphors in your life?
What’s asking for release in your world? Are you listening for the whispers?
Here’s the podcast.
Yes, pen was discarded after this post, with a little gratitude and readiness for whatever else wants to fall away this summer for a new fall harvest.
And here’s a song.
